Attendance Records and Safety Tips

Attendance Policies & Procedures

It is vital to the success of our students that they attend school on a regular and consistent basis. Therefore, we follow the Jefferson County Public School District Attendance Policies and Procedures which are as follows:

Parents, as you are aware, daily attendance is a very important part of your child’s education. An absence will be excused due to illness, family emergency, or religious holiday.  However, in order for the absence to be excused, the attendance line should be called before 9:30 am. Attendance Line: (303)-982-3370.Any absences not called in will be unexcused.

  1. )If the attendance line is not called, the attendance secretary will call the phone numbers on file to ensure the students safety. If there has been no response, or the reason is not due to illness, family emergency, or religious holiday, the absence will be unexcused.

  2. )After the 2nd unexcused absence, a Truancy Intervention Plan will be created for the student.

  3. )After the 3rd unexcused absence, a Notification Letter will be sent home; a Truancy Action Plan Meeting will be scheduled and a Truancy Action Plan will be created.

  4. )After the 5th unexcused absence, the decision will be made on whether or not to place the student on a “Medical Letter” Plan. With this, all absences related to illnesses would have to have a letter from a doctor in order to be excused.

  5. )After the 7th unexcused absence, a Compulsory Letter will be sent home and a Truancy Action Plan follow-up meeting will be scheduled. A “Medical Letter” decision may or may not be made.

  6. )After the 10th unexcused absence there will be a court filing with the Truancy Office.

Non-illness absences more than 2 days require a Pre-Arranged Absence Form that you can pick up in the office. In order for these absences to be excused the student must meet one of the following conditions: 1) is in good academic standing 2) has no unexcused absences, or 3) has four or fewer excused absences in a semester or seven or fewer in a school year. Any questions please feel free to contact Bridgette Clifford in the office at 303-982-3380.

Tardies:

When students arrive late, they miss classroom experiences and disrupt the instruction-taking place. Please help us maximize your children’s learning by emphasizing the need to be on time to school. If there is an unavoidable circumstance where your children are going to be late, please inform the office. Thank you for your support in this matter.

Safety

SAFETY #1 PRIORITY AT WITT: Below are some important steps you can take to help us maintain a safe environment for your children.

  1. )To model safe behavior for our students and families, PLEASE USE THE CROSSWALKS AT ALL TIMES! We appreciate your support as we teach children to use the crosswalks and to be accompanied by an adult as they cross the parking lot at the beginning and end of the day.

  2. )Parents, please remind your rider (bicycle, skateboard, or scooter) to walk once on school property. We have lots of little kids making their way into the building and up the sidewalks, and we need to keep it safe for all! Don’t forget those helmets too!

  3. )We are already seeing an influx of students arriving to school before 8:00 a.m. Please remember that there is no supervision in the mornings. Students who are going to be eating breakfast can be dropped off at 8:30 a.m. They will then ring the bell and will be allowed to enter for breakfast. Otherwise, our soft start is at 8:40 a.m. and that is when we will open doors and students can start to make their way to class. The final bell rings at 8:50 a.m. Please do not drop your students off to school before 8:35 a.m. unless they are eating breakfast at 8:30 a.m. We greatly appreciate your help with this. Thank you!

  4. )Please do not leave your children unattended in your vehicles for any length of time while you are in the building or away from your vehicle. This is a safety concern and causes panic for other parents who see this.
